poor idle on cold days

poor idle on cold days

my 99 sohc idles very poorly on cold days and seems to want to die or miss until it heats up.it just started this year .i changed iac valve but it still idles bad on cold days but seems to not hunt for rpm range any more .is this maf sensor?how do i clean it any help before dealer nails me for 145 computer diagnostic fee>thank you

poor idle on cold days

Have you had your lower intake manifold o-rings replaced? The warranty was extended to 6 years/72K miles on the SOHC built through 4/00 for this problem. Ford will replace them at no charge if you are under the milage limits. When they go bad, it causes a erratic idle when the engine is cold until the engine warms up enough to cause the o-rings to swell up and seal the leak.
