Anyone ever rebuild an NP205?
Hi all,
I replaced all the seals on my NP 205 last year and the rear output seal is leaking again. I'm guessing it's due to the bearings being worn out cuz the yoke has some up/dowm play to it.
I've seen kits with all the bearings & seals, but I'm concerned about pressing the stuff on and off. I was wondering if that's something I can do with the hammers and vices I have, or if it requires some extreme amount of force that only hydraulic machines can produce.
Thanks for any advice!

Doing the input and output bearings on these cases are a cakewalk. They slide right off the shaft (after bearing retainer plates, the aluminum plate that the seal fits into, is removed. To replace the idler assembly bearings is a bit tricky but can be done with a brass hammer and brass drift. If the bearings are original and you have alot of miles I would atleast replace the output bearings and seals. Also make sure when you reinstall a seal, make sure the sealing surface doesn't end up in a groove but will ride on a fresh part of the yoke.

You can press the seals on with a piece of wood and a vice. Like he said, the bearings should be fairly easy to slide on. For the uncaged needle bearings, use vaseline to stick them in. In all, it is a pretty easy rebuild. check out this rebuild:

Thanks a lot guys! Great link teds74!
FordPerf, good call on the seal location. I remember that when I replaced all the seals, the spring on the old seal wore a groove into the output yoke. I'll check that tonight and see if the seal is still good and make sure it's not on the groove.
Thanks again for the help!
