Ford / Cummins Repower
Has Any One Repowered A Ford Truck W/ A Cummins Engine? I Have A Cummins Engine & Want To Install A Zf-5 Diesel Transmission. Cummins Oem Adapter Is Small Block Pattern Only? Has Any Found An Adapter To Convert A Small Block Pattern To A Large / Diesel Block Pattern.
Thank You

I see that you are new... welcome to FTE.
tis okay.... but you need not start a new thread everytime you come back.
Most importantly, the ZF5/6 already fits the Cummins diesel.
if you need more info, http://www.fordcummins.com

What year/model of truck are you putting all this in?? I have a '97 12V Cummins and a '98 NV4500 transmission sitting in the shed waiting for a truck. I have a '96 F-250 4x4 ext. cab shortbed that I have spotted that I am looking at getting for my conversion. It had a Powerstroke in it along with a 5-spd ZF transmission. The Powerstroke has been pulled, but the transmission is still in it.

It would be a toss up I don't know if I would rather have the ZF or the NV 5spd which is all cast iron and a slightly stronger transmission except for the 5 gear nut.
You have to make sure you get the ZF that is behind the PSD if you plan on turning the power up on the Crummins opps I mean Cummins. The input torque rating is important especially with the ZF with its uhg aluminum housing that will probably grenade if you put too much power to it.
Its the only thing I don't like about the ZF is its aluminum which is expensive to repair.

Hello Everyone I have a 2000 Ford F-350 CC, LB,4x4,dually. It has a blown Powerstroke, it is backed by a ZF 6speed tranmission with a 1 3/8" input shaft. I am currently looking for a 12 valve, 215hp. Cummins engine, I will probably use one out of a Dodge truck.(96-early98 mannual trans).I have looked into the engines from Ford F-600 and 700 series trucks. Just so I don't hurt the Ford diehards feelings also. Hehe! This is a very common swap. I have looked on the Ford/cummins web site, and have spoke with Ken also at Autoworld, and Randy at Reliable diesel. I will probably go with an engine out of a Dodge truck, and use the Dodge bellhousing, My question is has anybody here ever made their own trans adapter, and engine mounts, and pilot bearing for this engine swap? I have access to all the machining tools I need. It sound like it will be a fairly easy and straight forward swap. Any information or ideas would be greatly appriated. Thanks

I took some measurements on my '93 and the frame angle is different on the 2 sides and the front/rear offset is different from one side to the other. I considered fabbing my own motor mounts, but thought the $180 price tag from Reliable was worth not having to fool with it. The only drawback to Randy's mounts (on my 93 F350) is that it will be necessary to remove the left motor mount should the vacuum/ps pump require servicing and sooner or later they will need servicing.

Well I see a mistake I made while I was typing, I will go with the ZF 6 speed, and the Ford Clutch, it will bolt right up to the dodge flywheel. The (bellhousing) on the ZF is cast as 1 peice of the transmission. Sorry. Still working on the designing of the adapter plate, to mate the ZF 6 speed to the 5.9 cummins, I will probably design it to accomdate the older style starter, as it is alittle bigger, and has more torque.
