Ford's Recall #93S68 Dated late 1993
Ford calls that problem "fuel cross-flow" and the recall was #93S68 in late 1993. Ford covered the recall and or repair for 12 years or 150K miles.
Problem is a check valve in the fuel pump/sender assembly. I just pulled the records on my 1990 F350 and verified this information.

meck1 is correct!
raytasch is 50% correct, since Ford change their fuel system in the 90. The in-line check valve replace the selector valve when Ford eliminate the mechanical selector valve in 1990. The in-line check valve recall effect only the new design fuel system and it does not effect the fuel system that have mechanical selector valve.
The recall 91S39 are "probably" the correct type of recall for Ford fuel selector valve. If someone have alldata subscription, they can easily look up and find out.

thanks to those who replied. Still a little in the dark of where the problem is.Is the problem inside the tank or out? Take note the gas goes from front to back and back to front untill gas runs out. I notice at an idle(in park) the gas moves faster to the opposite tank then when driving. So I fill up the front tank in morning and run out of gas untill I switch tanks about 5 to 6 times a day. Fun stuff, keeps me on my toes

No selector on 1990 trucks
Ford change their fuel system in the 90. The in-line check valve replace the selector valve when Ford eliminate the mechanical selector valve in 1990. I also replaced my selector valve, a month ago. 87 f150 4.9 the above picture in this tread is for 1987 to 1989 maybe before 87 i don't know

ok big up-date. Its a 1990 f250 w/ 351w. dual tanks. When I first notice there was a problem was when gas in front tank would go to rear tank. than viceversa. Now when using tank in back, it seems like the motor is strarving for gas. stalls ,chokes, and backfires. Your thinking " well dont put gas in back tank. I put gas in front tank well it goes to the back which the truck stall so i switch to the front tank and it runs good for 2 mins. then it runs out of gas there then back to the backtank. Are you guys getting the idea? Now so far I understand there was a recall that isnt in effect anymore but somebody tell me what part. thank you all for replying but yet im still getting answers for different years trucks... im so ready to punt

1990 Recall - Cross Tank Fuel condition
Sorry for the different info. The guys didn't know what year truck you had. For 1989 the same thing happened but it was caused by a bad fuel selector valve.

The in-line check valve is bad, like Kwikford said. A new in line check valve will fix your problem. Trucks that are 1989 and below don't have this part.

Problem is a check valve in the fuel pump/sender assembly.
There is a recall kit for several years of F-150 trucks 90 to 93 which consists of two in-line check valves and a new fuel pressure regulator. The valves go in the supply line from the fuel pumps to the tanks and prevent fuel from flowing into the tanks from the supply lines. This kit was issued by Ford to prevent two problems: fuel flowing from one tank into the other through the supply lines, and long cranking times due to fuel running back into the tanks after the vehicle was shut off. The fuel pressure regulator was included.
Also one of your in tank fuel pumps maybe bad? wait and see after repairs.
Call ford with your vin number and see, the 12 years or 150K miles might be different let us know.
Did you want to do the repairs yourself if not under warranty?
