Explorer Engine Skip and Ping

Explorer Engine Skip and Ping
Hi everyone,
I have a 94 XLT with 70 K mi. with the following issues:
Pinging
- started about 5k ago
- tried higher octane
- cleaned M.A.F. (per recommendations of this site)
- intermittent
- still getting some ping
Engine Skip/Cutout
- also about 3K ago
- when cold, start to accelerate forward, hesitates, feels like it is missing. Step on it and it clears up.
- goes away when it warms up
- cruising on highway in O.D. occasionally bucks. Stomp on it and it clears up.
Facts:
- Changed plugs and wires about 15K ago, with Bendix Autolite wires and Champion Plugs
- Fuel filter - never changed.
Thoughts:
- new wires and plugs?, Motorcraft original equip
- replace fuel filter?
- ignition module about to go?
- Im not sure if these problems are related
Any ideas on what else to look for or am I on the right track?

My first thought would be the fuel filter. If it has been 70,000 and not changed, then that could very well be the problem, especially being a 94 model. I would also take the IAC motor off and clean it. It is a cylinder that has 2 bolts that hold it on the throttle body, and an electrical plug with 2 wires. Take it off and clean the carbon out with carb cleaner a some q-tips.
