auto tranny stuck between gear???
I have a 78' ford F150 well there is no shame for the tranny but today, I ran a part to the neighbor in it and when I pulled into the driveway, I went to back out on the road, put it in reverse and it was just in a bind... truck just groaned... so I put it in neutral, and it took off forward... park groaned... when the truck is in neutral i believe it's taking off in 2nd, I don't feel the linkage is out of wack. Has anyone else had this prob. b4? If the tranny is junk it's not a real big deal I know where there is a 4spd for 100 bucks but I'm kinda tight on money right now.

Consider this with the 4spd swap too... you will have to swap the pedals and find a clutch pedal and bracketry, etc. Also you will have to play with the driveshafts, and find (or modify) the center floorpan/trans cover in the cab for the shifter.... add in the new flywheel, bell housing, clutch and throwout bearing, etc and the 4spd swap becomes a bit more involved and pricey than $100. Another option would be to pull and rebuild the C6 yourself. A TCI rebuild kit runs approx $190 from Summit racing, add in another $25 for the TechTrans manual for the C6 and you can go thru it for around $215, provided you dont need anything else (drums, etc) Even if you do need drums, etc you can pick those up for not to much from your local trans shop ($15-20 usually)
I just did the C6 in my F250 (Forward clutch was bad) and with the TechTrans manual it was a piece of cake (it shows all the testing procedures, teardown and reassy w/ diagrams, plus clearances, etc)... the hardest part was getting around the exhaust system when I pulled and installed it as I use a crossover to run duals on a 4x4.

Well I just got a NP435 for 150 bucks... came w/ 351M bell housing, clutch pedals/bracketry, linkage, fork and flywheel. I will buy a new clutch kit, so that will come w/ a new clutch, pressure plate, and throwout bearing. I will get the flywheel resurfaced. And modifying the floorpan cover will be no big deal, however what kind of mods will I have to make to the tranny crossmember and driveshafts? Are the driveshafts shorter or longer when swapping in a man. trans? Thanks for all the help guys it's really appreciated.
