Another Name for a DPFE??

I am so frustrated! I found my answers here, and began my action plan only to learn that no one around here appears to sell or even know what a DPFE sensor is! So, I started searching for one on the web, thinking I would just buy it online, but no luck. What the heck do people call this critter other than a DPFE sensor? I really, really don't want to buy it at Ford because they want close to $150 for it, and I just think that's wrong, esp. since it apparently would have been covered had it gone awry a few thousand miles ago, since Ford knows it's an issue. Oh well.

Bottom line is I need to get my hands on a DPFE for a 2000 Ranger, 2.5L engine, and none of my parts stores have them or if they do they don't know it, and I can't find it on the web. If these websites had pictures, I'd know if it was the right thing!! Thanks for any help, I'm sick of that little yellow reminder....

Yeah, go to Auto Zone and tell them the part you need is an "EGR Valve Sensor" - they too didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I said it was a DPFE sensor. Mine on my 3.0 V6 '99 only costed $60.
Ford was gonna charge me $90. I read that you can get them much cheaper at a scrap yard, about $15, but I didn't want to fiddle with that today - I would have had to drive for over an hour and still try to find a compatible truck and hope it works. Hope that helps!

If autozone/napa/advance/o'reileys or whomever don't know what the part is, then they should contact the local ford parts department and find out. People used to belive in service. At any rate, Xdrive is correct, EGR position sensor.

AMEN! I don't know why the parts stores in my area are so lax when it comes to customer service, but it's been a real problem for me. Of the two NAPAs, two Auto Zones, and the Andvanced autos where I live, I've only been pleased with the service at one of the AZs. Everyone else is a smart and they take their precious time with helping you even when it's not busy. Also, in the past many of them have insisted that I need a part that I later found out was bogus. But then again, getting free diagnostic code checks kinda makes up for it, I suppose.

Let us know how it goes for you, hg.

You can get the part number and a look/see here:

Ranger DPFE Application Guide

Be sure to click the vendor's part #s for each of the various years and models to display nice pop-up images of the different DPFE styles.

My dealer service tried to charge me $270 to replace my DPFE sensor. I can deal with the engine light on, thanks.

It's 2 screws and an electrical connector, with a couple of small vacuum hoses to pull of and put back on. Piece of cake, you can do it yourself in 20 minutes.

A positioning sensor is not the same as a DPFE sensor

I believe you can find those EGR Valve Position (EVP) sensors on some Ford EEC-IV engines, such as the 5.0L, but I don't think they were ever on the 3.0L or 4.0L OHV engines.

In any case, that's probably why some people (parts counter types usually) will sometimes mistakenly think its the same thing as a DPFE.
