Dash lights

I have a 99 150 and I noticed that the dash lights were out. I turned off the switch and the headlights would not go off. I disconnected the battery and pulled the switch to see if there was a bad connection or something and could not see anything obvious. I put the switch back and connected the battery and now the headlights go on and off properly, but now there is no dash lights and also no tail lights or parking lights on the first click of the switch. Im not sure where to go with this. Could anyone advise?

Same problem on my '89 Grand Marquis. No dash lights, tail lights, front parking lights, ashtray light. Replaced the headlight switch. All lights working!

But before you condem the headlight switch, check your fuse in the fuse box for those accessories. A blown fuse in that circuit will cause the problem you are having. Your owners manual will have a display chart of your fuses and their functions. I think its a 5 amp fuse. Keep us updated on your progress.

Already checked the fuse last week and thats what it was. Thanks though. What Im not sure about, is why the fuse blew anyway.

Fuses will blow from time to time without there being any problems. There might have been a slight voltage spike that caused yours to blow. If you keep blowing that particular fuse, you may have a short or loose connection.

Glad you have it fixed.

your problem is a blue mini 15 amp fuse in the fuse block under the hood - i have seen many where a person has a trailer connection on the back where the wires are corroded or one is grounding out. replace the fuse and it should fix the problem
