67-72 360cid rebuild

I have found a 67-72 360cid engine that I would like to rebuild, but I need some help. First of all I am replacing a 302 - so the mounts wont fit will they?
Secondly is there much for preformance parts for this size of an engine? I want a good 350 hp out of her. What can the bottom end on these engines handle?(stock) and what can they be built to handle? Thanks.

A fe crank is good for 600hp and 6000 to 7000 rpm. You want 350hp, get a edelbrock rpm intake, edelbrock heads, headers, crane 901 cam, and a holley 4bbl. It will cost you but it will scream.

Wow, thats an impressive crank- can the pistions and connecting rods keep up?
Are the FE's a 4 bolt main or just 2 bolt?

i wouldn't try the rods and pistons to that level. Most all fe are 2 bolt main. All 360 would be. And weather you know or not a 390 crank swaps in that block. The difference is that you need the 390 rod which is a tad smaller and a 390 pistons. The 360 pistons have the same bore but each fe piston has a different compression height which would change compression ratio and or hit the head.

You can find any truck from 65-79 that had a FE engine in it and use the motor stands/mounts. You will also need a different tranny coming from that 302.

so what you are saying is I could turn the 360 into a 390 if I am rebuilding the bottom end entirely...?
Would the heads swap over as well?

You need the 390 crank/rods/pistons, and the rest of the goodies from your 360 will work... Heads are all the same, intake can and should be upgraded to a 4brl (even a stock cast one will work).
