The swap I referred to earlier was made a couple of years ago and I have not seen the truck recently. You would need to measure the width of the proposed frame at the rear. 4x4 frames are narrower and closer in width to the original frame on your truck. That reason and the fact that the builder already owned the 79 4x4 drove the decision to go with the 4x4 setup. There is another group on line that you may want to check out. Do a google search for "slick 60's" and this site will come up. One of the people on that site has photos of a transplant. Personally, I'd use a 73-79 2x4 frame with an IFS kit in the front and a leaf spring mounted Ford 9 inch in the rear. I'd shorten the frame to fit and build the body mounts. None of this is for amatures or people without a good budget and a shop.

all right well its a little work and you have to be dedicated. but if you know someone that can arc weld pretty well and if you have all the equipment you can do it in about 2 to 3 weeks first the major things you need are and arc welder, a mig welder, a torch, a grinder, a saws all, and little stuff here and there.
Well i used a 73 longbed frame but i might have used a short bed but the long bed i had was under a 64 regular size and had already been shortend about 3 to 6 inches. now depending on how long your bed is how much you will cut.... do you have a long bed uni or short?.. well i have a short and we had to shorten the frame 17 inches off. to find out how much to cut down just measure from your center caps on your truck compared to the other frame and subtract. now the only problem you will run in to is if you have a short bed like me the 73 frame will widen in the back. so you actually have to torch the more narrow part of the frame and widen it about 1 and 15/16 on each side its pretty easy. but here is a question .. is your floor pan rusted out? the because if so. it would be easyer in the long run to replace it with later model front floor pans and they will bolt right up to the frame. but if not all you have to do is take your old mounts off the frame and put it on your new one. there are a lot of details and i have pictures so if you are really intrested and you have the time and a place to do it just ask and i will guide you through it. but the guy that had the 73 frame under his 64 said it rides like a cadillac....i havent got to drive it becuase im having to install a new tranny and right now im just taking a break! man its going to be nice. right now i can say it has a 351w with edelbrock carb, manifold, cam,and lifters MSD distributor and MSD wires, headers, electric fan, power steering disk breaks, twin I beam, dual master cylinder, a NICE chrome 61 grill, 2 JL 6x9's and a pioneer premire deck, B&M hammer shifter, gt grant steering wheel, MAN! im so proud! also i have some 18 inch rims on the way. but its been a long way! but yeah if you have any more questions just ask......
