Harpoon The Tank?
#181
The pump kicks off before it overflows. You can even put a few tenths of a gallon (that's how full it gets the first time) additional fuel in the tank after it shuts off (before it even thinks about overflowing) by clicking on the pump a 3-4 times. I estimate I get 4 more gallons of usable fuel from a 28 gallon tank.

I've been dragging my feet, thinking I'll have to do that mod one of these days, ever since I bought my truck new. Seems like every time I see this thread come back up to the top and subsequently get re-inspired, my tank is either full and/or I'm getting ready for a road trip and can't find time to do it. I curse my procrastination every time I stop at the fuel station... Thanks for the reminder. Hopefully after the next trip I'll remove my head from my posterior and get'r done, this time.

Did mine many years ago. It has never splashed back at me. In fact, I still have to baby the last gallon or half, if I want to see the liquid right at the top. I tend to only do that if I am getting right back on the highway for a run. Otherwise, I don't care about that last half gallon. But I do care about that last 4-5 gallons.
If you care about accurate MPG calculations, you need to do this mod. Otherwise, you won't get consistent fillups, and if you don't get consistent fillups you can't get accurate results. Not everyone cares about that and are happy with the lie-o-meter. I'm way too OCD for that. And I like the added range as a secondary benefit. To each their own.
