As I mentioned earlier in this marathon thread, I have a '94 Chateau Club Wagon and am very happy with it.
Currently I'm having trouble getting my parking brake to work--had no luck with help in the Brake forum.
Can anyone here tell me if they have had any experience with their parking brake on one of these E-150's?

I had the front cable replaced--still doen't work. Now the mechanic tells me it's the 'control mechanism' or the ratchet that's worn out.

I'm told that the brake works by two opposing springs, one at each end, and the one in the ratchet end is worn out?

The new ratchet is only available from a ford dealer. $300.

I'd get the cable that links the rear brakes together looked at, I bet it's binding up, the broken ratchet sounds like BS to me..... My 92 has worked as long as I've owned it.. That is 4 years, I hardly ever use it though so it's not a concern if it doesn't work.

I believe that is the cable I had replaced. The two cables that it operates-one to each rear wheel-are tight but doesn't engage the shoes. The mechanic says the 'self adjusting mechanism/spring hasn't enough jam to pull them tight enough??
