Ac problems on my 1990 f250

A 1990 vehicle would have come from the factory with R12 in the system. Nowadays you can only buy R12 if you have a license to do so. If the system has been converted to R134 already, the fittings on the system will have been retrofitted to a new style which resembles a small quick-connect fitting with threads on the inside.
If it has not been converted, take it to a reputable shop and let them give you an estimate, both to recharge with R12, and to convert to R134. With the cost of R12, it may end up being cheaper to have them convert it.
If it has been converted, most parts stores carry R134 kits that come with a low side hose and guage. Read the instructions, and don't overcharge the system.
