I dont know, when I can get Mystik JT-8 10w30 diesel rated oil on sale for $0.95/quart, I just cant see the point in going any lower in terms of price. I mean, $5 for oil for an oil change? Come on! Squeezing a few too many pennies here.

It's probably fine, if you like the SL / GF-3 energy conserving bit.

I just changed the oil in my 2000 PSD with the cute-ly named Truckella from Advance. So far I haven't noticed any difference...

Ehhh...do you REALLY want to take that chance? Honestly...Engine Oil, ATF, Gear Oil, Coolant - can you afford to skimp money here? These are the things that keep your vehicle going. That buffer, protect, clean. Skimping here is like going down to Mexico for surgery. You save money..but..is it REALLY as safe a bet.

Ford goes down to Mexico for truck parts now... Seen the rear leaf springs on a late model ford truck? Lot of them are made there!

the real question would be who makes the advance auto oil.

Advance obviously does not make their own oil, they contract it out to another company.

As was said above "just make sure it has the sae rating with the api starburst with a sl rating"

This is good advice.

If you are running it in an older truck, I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I use it in all my vehicles. It has the starburst and everything. It works fine.

Motor Oil sales are largely an emotional purchase, the buyer hopes they are buying the best product for their car! That is what all the advertising is about, making you feel good about your purchase.

All you need is a oil that meets all the specifications required for your engine. Advance oil does that. Go for it I say.

A few years ago, I worked there. Havoline used to manufacture the store brand oil. You could tell just by looking at the bottle shape and the label.

Check the label on the back, it should say who makes it or where they are. I'll bet it's one of the main players still.

It's kind of like how Lays makes generic chips in other names. It comes out of the same cooker, just into different packaging.

I have noticed that the bottle of Advance house brand oil says:
"Compare to Havoline".
For whatever that is worth....

Advance Motor Oil IS NOT made by Havoline or anyone associated with Havoline.Advance oil is made by Coastal and has been for a while.Coastal used to be Coastal-Unilube but it was bought out in Jan.2004 by Warren Oil Company. It is now Warren -Unilube and there web site is at www.warrenunilube.com. Warren Oil Co. is not the maker of Wal-Marts SuperTech oil.Warren Distribution/Warren Performance Products makes SuperTech.Warren Oil Co. and Warren Dist/WPP are not the same company nor are they associated in any way.Warren Oil Co. is based in North Carolina and Warren Dist/WPP is based in Nebraska.
