TPS sensor, How to check voltage

I don't have a Haynes manual, & the Chilton does not show/tell me how to adjust the TPS voltage to 1 Volt.
Key on Engine off the Harness to the TPS has 5 Volts in it, but that's disconnected from the TPS.

Help

OK Reamer. there are 3 wires to the TPS (throttle position Senor). Ya stick a pin in 2 of the wires, I think the Black one and the Black/Greenwire.(I can't remember, but I think one of the wires is red or orange/black and that's not the one.) Now, with Key on and engine off and throttle closed you should get 1 volt or .9 volt with a DC Volt meter. Wide open throttle should read close to 5 volts. To adjust you will have to take the throttle body off the intake so you can loosen the screws that move the TPS back and forth.

Thanks D Harry!
Just did the test.
&^($ thing stalled on me twice, but anyway, I get (KO EO) 1.17V closed, 4.67 WOT.
Guess this thing's gonna drive me crazy.

Sensor passes.

Had it at the Ford dealership all day today., they "coud not reproduce"
I even took the tech out for a 40 minute ride.
Smooth as silk, son-of-a-$%#@!

The tech mentiond that #7 and 8 wires can't cross each other, and the pick-up in the distributor could do this.

Well I have one of the last "obsolite but still in stock" complete Dist. body assembly coming tomorrow. Hopefully that will stop the timing from jumping around +-3 degrees! Here's where it gets expensive!

OK, your not that far off with the TPS so it should run good. If it stalled out it might mean your IAC is dirty. It controls the air at idle. Was it a stall at Idle? It's done it to me. Ya, crossed wires can do it on 7&8, Iv'e heard of this before.
Anyway, let us know. We care about these old (older) trucks because that's what we're'all driven. I don't have $35,000 for the new F150 and I don't think I'd spend the money on it if I did!

While idleing, it won't stall.
It will stall on start-up after it catches and the starter stops, the engine will come down and die. Also noticed it will idle at say 700, the when you put it in gear, (AOD) it idles up.

We'll try the new distributor today. Will let you know.
How do I clean the IAC?
