The Ford block in '77 and '78 came with 4 bolt mains, in '79 the the block cylinder skirts were lengthened. The Lincoln block used on the motor known as the CJ/SCJ motor had 4 bolt mains too. Otherwise, all are basically the same block excluding the BOSS block.

I was "misinformed" that there were no factory ford 4 bolt engines- only 429s.

If you are talking only 460 ci, complete factory original engines, then the '77-'78 Ford with 460 ci displacement were the only 460 ci displacement motors to come with 4 bolt mains. The other's were 429 ci displacement (only difference are the crank and pistons).

The heads would be different too. The Lincolns from 1968 to 1971 came with about 75 cc closed combustion chamber heads. In '73 the 460 came with about 86(?) cc open combustion chamber heads. After 1973 they were about 92 cc close combustion chamber heads. All Ford motors came with the latter head, close to it, or the EFI head.

Also the '79 and later 460's came with an externally balanced crank. Also, the Ford 460 was only put in light duty trucks.

C8VE, C9VE, and D0VE are basically the same head. They are a common production head with the smallest chamber volume, that, in turn, would give the highest CR of the standard production heads (all else being the same, just comparing heads). IMO the D3 and later heads are the best heads for a daily driver, regular unleaded gasoline set up, when used with flat top pistons.
