Removing rear drums on 97 F-350

I'm in the process of removing the drums off of the truck and have removed the axle, hub nut and outer bearing on each side. Going by the book, the unit should now slide off but seems to be held on still(kinda spring loaded feeling). I tried prying the drum but something is still attached. Any help would be appreciated.

Have seen cars and trucks that need encouragement from a hammer to come off.

There is probably a lip on the brake drum due to wear from the brake shoes. You will need to "back off" the brake shoes to remove the drum. You can access the star wheel on the slack adjuster thru a slot in the backing plate. You will need to push the adjusting arm away from wheel with a pick or small screw driver to turn the wheel and release the brake shoes.

Just a thought, are you doing brakes only, because the brake drums are independent of the hubs in that they will slide off after the shoes are backed off.

I'm doing it all, but in the morning I'm gonna back off the brakes and see what happens. Thanks for the help.
