Polishing Stainless steel

Hello

I have a set of Putco Boss Bars on my truck. They have been on my truck for 1 year. It is impossible to get them to shine. I have rubbed and rubbed trying to get them to shine like new again. I am pretty put out considering how much they cost versus the quality of them. Any advice on a good product to use to make them shine again. I have tried washing them and using a good cleaner wax I have tried buffing them. Please advise

thanks
Wes

Wes,

This is sort of a generic shot in the dark, may be helpful but not what you want to hear. I have a set of Westin with chrome plating step bars on my F150. I remember that Westin stated that stainless steel has issues as to polishing. The Westin Web site states the following:

"Research confirms that raw polished stainless steel can develop a yellowish, dull tint in a short period of time and it's impossible to get the original luster back without professional polishing. Westin has solved this problem with the new Platinum Series step bar, a stainless steel tube finished with chrome plating or..."

Not sure what they mean by "professional polishing."

Chip

BTW - The chrome step are now a year old and look just as nice as when I installed them.

I've had a lot of experience in polishing stainless, aluminium and chrome. Our dump truck has a bunch of it.

For the stainless, I began with "000" steel wool and soapy water, then used a mild rubbing compound. After that I used some 600 wet sandpaper and finished up with Blue Magic metal polish. I prefer the Blue Magic for the Chrome and Stainless over all of the polishes I've tried. It seems to last longer and the silicone base makes it easier for cleaning the bugs off.
