Question Engine Light does not come on

1995 Ford Ranger, salvage title, the Check Engine light does not come on. Is this a bulb or fuse? If bulb, how do I get behind it to check? I had a ODBII check done, and I had code 0401. I know what this is and going to try and fix it this weekend, but the Engine Light was probably on when I bought it and they made it stop working to sell it.

thanks, Brian

Welcome to FTE!!

I would start with the bulb. I'm not familar with removing the instrument cluster on a 95, maybe someone else can help you could pick up a manual, always handy to have anyway.

I had the same problem with my 95. Ended up pulling the cluster and replacing the bulb. If you do it, change all the bulbs while you are there with the "long lasting" type. It is not difficult, but you do need to remove the radio console. I doubt if they made it stop working. The bulb is just probably burned out. As a precauiton, you should disconnect the battery just in case the air bags decide to blow.
