Radio display working again !!
Thanks to all the advice and guidance from you guys in this thread I pulled the radio from my wife's Explorer and fixed the display problem. Carefully re-soldered the components as described and that was it..
She was so grateful she cooked dinner !

My display board has been out for 2 years. I researched it and got frustrated. I was talking to my dad and he said his friend does that kinda stuff for fun.

He fixed mine really quickly. Costed me a six pack. I asked him if I could post on the forums and he said it was okay. I'm sure he'll charge a reasonable amount - he knows what the other guys are charging. He lives in southern NH. He showed me how and what he did. I couldn't do it, but sure was interesting. shoot him an email and I'm sure he'll fix your DC display board...

2019 a replace radio costs $15 but?
Wow, thanks to all the many helpful posts this thread and others about a display goes out while radio still works. actually I miss my clock on my 2000 mountaineer the MOST. Have had this SUV 8 years all was fine till this week.
SO I am going to get a more handy relative try a few things as suggested. Heres a question if anyone still interested and kind enough to give their 2 cents. A guy up the road is parting out an Explorer and will sell his working radio $15. Seems like a cheap fix, IF it works. My question issue: As I don't mind THAT MUCH having no display or clock as long as the radio works quite fine, would a 19-year old "removal" be likely to mess up the working radio... maybe the connectors or other areas are "about to go" and by the time the swap is finished neither the old radio nor the parted new radio will work, and then what? Need my Radio! TY.
