Rusty Rides Again

Hey everyone! Last night me and my dad finally got my '60 F100 all back together and on the road. Just in time for my high school graduation this morning.

She's looking awesome. I'll get some completed pictures up later. But for now, I have a lot of graduation parties to go to, and friends to impress!

TWO THUMBS, WAY UP for you and your Dad!
For an old goat like me, whose Dad wasn't there much, this is a heart warming story++.
Just that you completed it together is simply awesome, but that you pulled an all nighter b4 your HS Grad so you could ride in as the king you are,... well as they say in the ad, That's priceless!

Way to go Kooper (& Dad)

Thanks for all the kind words, guys.

About 5:00 this evening I pulled her into the backyard and took some exterior shots. You can see them in my gallery (if you like them that small) or ...

Or you can see the gallery I set up myself at http://www.fortestar.com/f100/ . There are two resolution settings, and I would advise you to be careful with the High Resolution shots. They're 1792 x 1200, which can be instant death to slow modems and/or computers.

Now that we've got that out of the way, enjoy. I'll take some interior shots once it gets dark .. it'll look better in the glow of my dome light than it will with the sun as low as it is.

P.S. She's not as clean as she could be.

Kooper,
I checked out your web site pics and what a cool truck. It is refreshing to see a young guy restore to stock an old truck close to original! I am a school teacher and most of the guys say I should tub my truck and drop ini a big block!!
Qusetion: How did you do your hubcaps? How did you paint them gray with the red FORD?

Way Cool!

Thanks for the pictures Kooper! Your truck looks great and I'm sure it means more since your Dad worked on it with you. Kudos to you both! Nice to see another Ford truck back on the road and looking good! Congrats!

Abe, we just sanded and painted the entire surface of the hubcaps in silver. Then my mom volunteered to hand paint the letters. She did a really nice job.

I was able to hand-paint the chrome myself, but that was only because I was able to use a rag soaked with paint thinner as an eraser.

Kooper,
more questions about your hubcaps: were they original to the truck or are they reproductions? What is name of silver was it and what was the name of the red and where did you get it? Hubcaps on '53-'56 trucks were originally silver (argent) with red letters. They only reproduce the shiny stainless ones. I am leary about spray painting my stainless ones for fear of messing them up!
thanks, abe 54 F-100

They are the original hubcaps. I'm pretty sure there are no reproductions of these made ... '57 to '60 Ford trucks are relatively unpopular compared to '53-'56s, etc.

Tomorrow I'll try and get some names and numbers off of the paint cans for you. The silver was a regular automotive paint that we sprayed on with my dad's gun, and the red was some sort of Vermillion model paint that we applied with a brush.

Looks great! Captured the stock look extremely well. Can't wait to finish mine. Seeing your correct white rims and a blackwalls have me thinking of buying an extra set of rims with black wall bias-ply's! Grab a few inside shots when your at it next. Another fine '60..... -4speed

Thank you, sir.

I'd just like to note that we went with radials in the interest of better handling and availability. Maybe someday I'll get some reproduction vintage bias plies to put on. But now that brings up a question I've occasionally thought about ... what kind of tires were on these trucks from the factory? By the time I got the truck the tires had been replaced. Any help from someone with knowledge on this subject would be appreciated.

And mr4speedford, just for the record, I didn't have anything to drink.

Ford's came standard with 6.70 15's made by firestone. Can still be bought today through coker. There were also optional wheels and tires but most came with listed above. -4speed

Dude, that is TOO MUCH! I don't know how you guys managed to get it done that quick! Awesome new pics for the registry, for sure!

The blackwall bias plys were standard, but I think you get order www's on it. I like the www look, so the Daisy will probably have 'em! Lowered, and on stock rims! I'm starting to miss the ol' Daisy....she's still in Kansas.....sniff

Kooper, your truck looks great. The stock wheels and hubs with late model radials gives it a cool retro hotrod look. You guys should take pride in what you've done.
