After reading all the Mess. last night I did find out that dry and 4x4 don't mix only did it a few times at speeds less then 1 mph reason I did that was I am trying to find a noise I am having at slow speeds I hear what is like a bad tire but I got all new ones and still have it as you slow down to 30 mph to a stop I get a rump rump rump sound driving me nuts dose not feel like brakes and dose make the sound even if I am not putting on brakes and u joins look find are tight and I think if it was a jount it would be faster rump rump at 30 mph and it is not that fast to me it feels like something in the tire I did take each tire off one at a time and put on spare on and test drive it never changed

When you got the new tires were they balanced? If they wern't this is probility your problem. Also try to jack each one of the front tires and slowly rotate them around a few time. it should take the same ammount of pressure to rotate the tire around. If you feal any rough spots then it is the berrings in that tire. One last question, do you have auto or manual hubs on your explorer?

I had the tires balanced x2 to make sure it was not them I have auto hubs and I did check the bearings and they are and from what I have heard if it was a bearing it would do it steady. I have run out of ideas I do know I need a front end alined maybe it is that was going to do that this week. if you have any other ideas send them my way

tell us how you chkd your bearings?
you must raise the vehicle and grab top and bottom of tire try and pull in and out on tire there should be no play at all.if there is its a bad bearing.
also there is a tsb on road harshness, the fix is raise vehicle loosen motor mounts and trans mount, lower vehicle drive forward 5-10 ft then drive backwards 5-10 ft.then retighten mounts to proper torque. this is supposed to relieve the pressure on drive tran ,thus eliminate the noise.

chk the tsb's on explorers you will see what I'm talking about!
Do you know what a technical service bulletin is ?
This one states it releases the strain on the drivetrain.
it doesn't hurt the truck if you just put in gear, let it idle forward and backward.
He says that he has tried everything else !
I 'll see if I can get the # and cut and paste it for you.
Bill , wasn't questioning your being able to chk your wheel bearings
Thats the correct way. some people don't know the right way
It might be the tires ,did you have an alignment when the new tires were put on? You said the old ones were cupped bad.
Rich
I have a 98 explorer which gave me trouble for a long time ,thats how I found the tsb ,which fixed my noise.
