Hemi in police vehicles
Hey guys looks like Dodge is making a major push in the police vehicle market. Trying to oust Fords dominance with the crown victoria. The new Dodge magnum with the hemi. Dodge reps say it will catch anybody on the road no matter what. So dont be surprised to see a Dodge magnum in your rearview mirror if you violate traffic laws.

Only problem is the price, but then some police forces don't seem overly concerned with how public money is spent. My understanding is that a base CV PI can be bought somewhere around $18,500 through fleet purchases. Unless the Magnum falls flat on its face I don't see Dodge lowering their prices anywhere near that level.

Dodge and Plymouth dominated the police car market in California in the 60's and 70's. The 440 wedge was the engine because the hemi was way to tempermental. The CHP bid the contract every year, so Mercury and even Oldsmobile won once in a while. The biggest joke was when the AMC Matador won the LAPD contract.

"Motorola" can catch anything, but not Dodge. Put down the pipe and slowly back away.

Was that for Magnums or Intrepids?

The hemi is way over populated...it's really not that wonderful. The 1500 hemi truck is not really fast for a 345hp truck. The hemi engine is a nice engine but it's not what non-auto-educated people think it is (marketing).
Do you have a reputable source for this information? Otherwise, it's just hear-say. I think a new mustang cobra would still blow it's doors off

i remember the intrepids....we ran one of those in my old 91 LX mustang with the 5.8L swap out...my buddy is a sheriff's deputy here and he was the one i ran on.....we were playing of course and the intrepid was a loaner while his crown vic was in the shop for scheduled maint....that thing was a pig (no pun intended) even at 70mph roll on i would walk away on him.

Actually Intrepids have some go to them. My friend Tyler and I raced a Durango packing a 360 once and we had his Intrepid topped out pretty fast - the Durango just kept walking away. Same trip we blew the doors off some chick in a Mazda that thought she was gonna pass us. O_O
That Durango was bloody hauling.....
the 3.3 V6 in the Intrepid is a reliable motor, great torque and good horsepower. They also mounted the engine North-south. A N-S Front-drive engine! I couldn't believe it! lemme tell ya..I wish it could have been that way with my Taurus...Water Pump, spark plugs...would have ALL been easier....
