dont feel bad, my 4.0 gets about 12 MPG city, and about 16 hwy, got 3.55 rear end with 30/9.50s on it, I figured it should have about a 3.08 ratio because of the tire change, and Tmyer, how are you getting that kind of mileage out of a 4.0?

My 01 Edge, reg cab, 4.0 sohc, 5 speed, 2wd gets 22 mpg at 70 mph. Plus it has the best horsepower to weight ratio of any Ranger ever made.

Catback made a big difference plus Volant air intake. I figure I'm getting +2 mpg more than the stock system. 20 is the best I have done around town. Heck even on the freeway in Seattle its town but I'm driving with an egg under my foot. Closer to 18 is what I would call normal for me but I have really tried to watch my driving style while gas is this high. I can use the extra money I save on my 56 and 77, niether which will see the high side of 12 I bet. It will be interesting to see what I get on my trip next week. 6000 miles all highway.

Just a curious question. Does anybody with a 3.0 that is getting 20+ mpg have the FFV or straight gas. I am starting to think that it has something to do with the FFV (big injectors, etc.).

I'm wondering the same thing now. I was told by the salesman when I bought my truck that it is a FFV. But I can't find a sticker or id on it anywhere.

MF11283, I have to ask, because of your catback and intake have you changed your driving habits. I really have to keep my foot out of it and its very tempting not to. If I had my way it would be all throttle and wake Seattle up ever morning. But I'm trying to drive the same way I did before the mod. And even though the 4.0 is a good engine its not a 505.

If your 3.0L is a flex fuel, your VIN will have a "V" in the 8th digit position.

I am getting over 25 mpg

My 1999, 3.0 FFV, 5-speed manual, 4x4, 3.73 axle, extended cab, flair side is now getting consistently over 25 mpg. This is mostly high speed interstate highway commuting at between 75 and 85 mph.

It now has almost 118,000 miles. I just changed the plugs to the autolite thin wire platinum or whatever they are. See, the post on the 3.0 forumn concerning plugs at 116,000 miles for details.

Prior to changing the plugs (I ran the originals to 116,000 miles) I was getting less consistent mileage, between 22.5 and 25. The truck was running fine though. Now I have ran several tanks and each time the mileage was over 25. The truck runs better now than it did when new.

MF11238, I don't know what to say. I have never got that kinda a gas milage. Prior to the change out I would get 270 to about 17.4. This is all city or at least so much so the highway don't count really, rush hour. Last tank was 310/17.2 and the tank before was 322/16.8. I Have only run 4 tanks through this since the change but 2 of those where with the car trailer, it wiegh 2200 empty and then I only get 210/17.0 or so.

bigrigfixer, my 3.0 gets consistently over 600 kms. per tank, usually 620-630 during the summer here in southern Ontario. My truck is not an FFV truck either, engine code "U" in the VIN.

I'm curious if anybody on this forum with a cat-back system is realizing a legitimate fuel economy improvement. I've been giving thought to doing the exhaust next on my truck, & this would certainly motivate me to hack off my current exhaust, despite being rock soild still.

Angry 2004 mazda b3000 DS CAB PLUS

Not happy with my gas mileage either, I get 275 to 320 miles per tank, 17 - 19 mpg. I have the 4.10 rear. EPA sticker says 18 city and 22 highway, but mine is mostly highway, and I don't drive it hard. Strangely it doesn't seem to matter much about city/highway towing or carrying a load. My best mileage (19 mpg ONCE) was a week when I hauled 2 loads of gravel... on the backroads. Have had it into the dealer twice for mileage and another issue. they finally tried to convince me my mileage is OK. BS.

I'm still having the problem with the revs jumping up, then down when I put it into park. they can't fix that either, till it does it every time. BS again.

I had a 91 ranger, 4.0 ext cab. It was agreat truck. this one is not in the same class.
