Can't bleed the rear brakes on 91 Explorer with rear antilock brakes only.
I just replaced the master cyclinder. I bleed the front brakes fine but can't bleed rear brakes. I am working on a 91 Ford Explorer 4WD with RABS rear antilock brakes. It has the valve under on the side of the frame. The ABS light is not on while driving. Is the RABS valve stuck or bad. I believe that kind of valve is open all the time unless the computer tells it to close. I should be able to bleed the rear brakes like the front ones using the pedal method (so I can see the fluid coming out) and no key in the iginition switch. If I can't bleed the rear brakes then that means I am not getting good braking action in the rear while I am driving it.

you need the vacume type bleeder.theres a shuttle valve that blocks fluid from master cylinder to rear if air enters system.to keep front system working as long as possible.the vacume type pulls shuttle back to working position.

YOu can go to auto zone or an auto parts store and buy a vacuum pump its alot easier and less messy and just bleed from the farthest from the master cylinder and work your way around. YOu can use the ABS acummulator but you need two people to do it ..
