I'm consider a flowmaster muffler on my 93 Explorer to get some more power out of it. I was wondering what experiences people have had with Flowmaster mufflers or if another route would be better to get more power? Thanks!

If you don't wanna spend much, do the exhaust and, if you can, get a cold-air intake. Flowmaster supposedly adds some pretty good #'s for the price, but the sound is a lot better. Another kinda cheap thing to do would get a chip, Diablo Chips are some of the best I've come accross. Get better gas mileage and at least 25 more hp..

I can't find a an intake for my 99 X Limited 5.0 V8. I check Airaid, K&N FIPK's, and a couple of others but can't seem to find one that fits. Any idea's?

It would probably have to be a custom. I have a '94 XLT and can't find anything. Find some type of tube that will connect and put a filter on it.

A friend of mine bought the same FIPK kit I have on mine and used it. I don't know why they do not list one for a 99, but the 97 kit worked well on his. I was not there for the install, but I don't think he had to do anything different to make it fit.

The K&N FIPK Kit number is: 57-2513-1

If you are looking for an Airaid spacer, the part number is: EVG-400-517
(I don't know about the EVG part, but the 400-517 should be universal - just depends on where you buy it)

I searched on K&N's website and got the FIPK number and on Macrmotive.com and got the Airaid - just in case you need a place to get them...

Hope this helps...

The part numbers I listed are for the 5.0. Guess I should have said that...

I'll get the other part numbers for you and post in a few minutes...

OK - here is what I found so far -

Airaid Intakes and Spacers Numbers:

[link:www.airaid.com/intakes.html|Airaid]

The parts numbers for the Airaid are:
400-598 SOHC spacer... none for the OHV
400-121 SOHC intake... none for the OHV

The K&N pat numbers for their FIPK kits are:
SOHC - 57-2528
OHV - 57-2527

Hopefully this will help. I know of a couple of other intakes made, just have to find them again. I don't look much at the 4.0's, so I can't help too much on the parts. But I have seen some parts for them, and have read alot of posts from guys here finding parts for them...

Good Luck...

Hey, thanks for that info, Cobra. Much appreciated.

I did see an ad in Truckin' magazine for a company called "Mac Products" or something to that effect, that had an air intake for the 99 X for $139.95. Ever heard anything about that one?

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-Dec-02 AT 09:59 AM (EST)]I know the Mac kits were being sold on EBay a while back - may still be. There are a few people on another board I talked to that are running it and really like it. The difference between it and the K&N FIPK is that the MAc comes with an intake tube also and not just the filter. I have thought about getting one and seeing how it does. If they have one to fit, I would not hesitate getting it instead of a K&N. I doubt there is that much of a difference anyway...

OK-

I was curious after I posted this, so I just checked EBay - here it is:

[link:cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1873529310|Mac Cold Air 4.0 SOHC]

[link:cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1873809185|Mac Cold Air 5.0 V8]

Thought maybe you would want to take a look...

After going back and reading, I think we got a little off-topic some. To answer your question about the Flowmaster - it is worth it to put on. When you put one on, you will notice the tone of course, but it helps on the backpressure also and you will feel a difference there also.

Most of the time I recommend taking all 4 cats off also and going with 1 hi flow cat. It will still pass emissions tests, and helps get some of the extra restriction out of the way.

Thanks for all the input, now I just have to make a decision. If you've got a 91-94 explorer there is another performance intake system at this site: http://www.ifab.net/products/93intake/index.html
