1988 Ford F-150 Dash Emblem

Hi,

My name is Andrew, and I am new to these forums.

I recently purchased a 1988 Ford F-150 (XL). Does anybody know where I can get a replacement dashboard emblem (it is fastened to the dashboard on the passenger side, and it identifies what package is installed, such as "Custom," "XLT Lariat," etc...)? My truck is an "XL F-Series," but over the years the "XL" and the "F" have broken off the current one just leaving the "Series."

It looks something like this:

XL
F-Series

I tried browsing eBay, but no such luck.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time, and have a nice day.

Andrew

You want one cheap? Find a junk-yard! While your there, browse for other stuff you need. If you dont know where one is, you can usually find them listed in the yellow pages under 'automotive parts-used' or something similar. Just make sure you know how they come off(try removing what's left of your existing emblem)before you find a perfect one in the yard and break it during removal. But if you happen to have an arm or a leg to spare, your local ford dealer might be able to get their hands on one. Good luck.

Hi,

Over the weekend, I went and checked about three different junk yards in my area. They had many trucks between '87 to '91. Most of them were either Custom or XLT Lariat, but there was only a couple of XL's. Unfortunately, in most cases, the dashboard emblems were either missing, or the dash was completely removed.

Does anyone know if there is a catalog or parts place that sells these?

Thank you for your time,
Andrew S.

I just found this web-site... NationalPartsDepot.com and ordered the ford truck catalog for the 1948-1996 trucks. I don't know if its got your parts in it, but with over 300 pages, it is very likely. (you will need the first four digits of your V.I.N.- so go get it!) Good luck.

For those years, the XLT Lariat was the most popular package, followed by the Custom, then XL, then XLT. I hardly ever see a '87-'91 XLT truck. Even XL's are rare. The Custom then is what the XL is now.

On my radio bezel I have an "XLT" off a ford escape. I was told by the ford parts guy they do not have any emblems off older trucks like that. You can maybe find something that would be suitable, by looking at new vehicles in a Ford lot and pick out the emblem you like (exterior or interior). Some would say XLT, XL, F150 Lariat (I can't remember exactly). Ford can order these for you. In my opinion the one I have looks way better than the original. It is shiny black and chrome/silver and attaches by sticky tape on the back.

The newer XLT emblems off the Escapes, Explorers, and Expeditions closely resemble the 80-81 XLT emblems. It will be a black background with silver lettering. In 1982/83 they changed to the silver block with the red letters XL/XLT engraved in it. The Lariat emblems stayed close to the same from 1977-86.

But none of those match the one he is asking about though. The best bet is to look at Dennis Carpenter or L/M/C or JC Whitney, they should have them. The '87-'91 is gradually going in to the "classic truck" status.

XL F-Series

Hi, Everyone.

Thank you all so much for the assistance. I truly appreciate it.

I looked around many junk yards in my area, called Ford, and checked out National Parts Depot (I downloaded their 51 MB PDF Catalog, and they had the "Custom" emblem, but nothing for XL or XLT Lariat). Unfortunately, I came up empty handed.

Today, I made another trip to my local junk yard for some other parts, and they had a 1987 F-150. This truck had the chrome colored bar with the 4 black horizontal lines running through it under the F-150 emblem (I believe I read on this forum that these trucks were actually Customs, but apparently Ford didn't use the 'Custom' name in '87). The dash emblem just said "F-Series" (sans XL), so I got that. Then, as I walked around some more, I saw an '89 which had an "XLT Lariat" emblem; the XLT part was broken off and laying in that recessed area above the glove box. I was able to get the XLT part as well, and when I got home, I did some work, put two and two together, and I now have an emblem that says 'XL F-Series." I still need to do some work to it, and I plan to paint the letters silver to go along with the color scheme of those types of emblems. I will try to post the finished product in the gallery (I have been meaning to put some pictures of my truck in there as well).

Again, thanks for all of the assistance.

Andrew
