Flowmaster 40 or 50

I'm trying to decide.

Engine is a FE360... will eventually be a 390 with a 941 cam. Presently only headers, intake, 670 4bbl, electronic ignition...

I've already decided on 2 1/2" dual exhaust dumping straight out the back

What mufflers should I run? Flowmaster 40 or 50? I could tell the dude at the muffler shop was trying to steer me to the 50. Maybe he has a bunch in stock.

On a loudness scale of, say 1 to 10 (1 being quiet, 10 being illegal) I'd like to be in the 7 or 8 range (yeah I'm trying to **** off my neighbors).

Thanks for any comments, suggestion, or ideas.

Sam

Sam, the FM 40 and 50 flow about the same. I believe the only difference in the 50 is a resonance chamber to quieten it down some. If you're looking for loud, then you'll probably be happier with the 40.

That being said, there's better chambered mufflers out there than the Flowmasters, IMHO. The Hooker that's on my (wifes) Explorer is perfect for me, but it is quiet. I have a Moroso Spiral Flow ordered for my Bronco that should arrive in a few days. It's supposed to have a scavenging effect, that gives better performance and mpg. As to sound, it should make the RicerBoys run home crying to their mommas.......

There's also a Flo-Pro Twister muffler that is similiar to the Moroso, but I can't find anyone that sells it. Spintech also makes a chambered muffler. There's a lot of muffler designs out there, and I guess it all boils down to personal preference.....

i really like the FM sound, i got a si/do on my pickup, my buddy has true dual no cats with FM's on his pickup, and another buddy has true duals with cats and FM's on his 88 Lincoln Mark VII. the one buddy just came back with his redone yesterday...94 F150, true duals with FM 40's, out thru 18x3" tips. it sounds really awesome. pretty loud, but its definatly not the loudest i've ever heard. so to answer ur question...i say go with the FM 40.

Well, it's done... Flowmaster 40 Delta Flows.

2 1/2" pipes, crossover, dumping out the side in front of the rear wheels. True dual exhaust, all this behind the headman headers.

It sounds sweeeet! It rumbles at idle and screams when you get on it!

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and ideas etc...

Thanks man, I do enjoy it! I hope it doesn't get me in trouble. I just want to floor it so I can hear it roar.

Now I have to work on a tranny problem.

Yeah, the never ending list: bucket seats, floor shifter, 941 cam, 360 to 390 conversion, fix window seals, tinted window, new bed, all new hoses, wheels and tires, new stereo, paint, wiring, lift/lower (I haven't decided yet, I'm leaning towards lowering) etc... (not in any particular order).

My wife think I'm a nut, she says "what are you doing to your mid life crisis vehicle now"?

Flowmaster 40's are awesome. I love the one that I have on my truck, and the best part is: they only get louder over time. And for the list, mine just started, but it just keeps growing everyday...but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
