Have you thought about a piggyback fuel computer? You would have to figure out how to hook it up yourself, but that is definitely doable. Or, my other idea is a rising rate fuel pressure regulator, then you MIGHT be able to stay with stock injectors. I have been thinking about doing this for a while, I glad to hear that turbo works nicely, I would have thought it would be to big.

What about converting it to a carb setup? I know it could be considered a step backwards but it may just be the answer.

the piggy back is an option but i am not too computer savy . my truck runs well with the fmu at about 6 lbs. and i think with a better fuel pump and little fmu tweaking i could up boost to 8 or 9 lbs max which is as high as i care to take it for what i want from it. this truck pulls a mountain grade effortlessly in overdrive without running hot or detonation. still trying to part with a few bucks to buy a good wide band air fuel ratio set up which is a must to get it set ip just right

I have always thought ford should offer a truck service turbocharged 300 in thier f250-f550 trucks as an alternative to an expensive high maintinance diesel. 500ftlbs would be so easy to achieve without all the emissions headaches and high doller injection system BS. Not to mention it is a way better truck motor than the 5.4.

My guess would be to find a late 80's donor truck with the 4.9 and the AOD and swap the complete unit and computer over to the '78. In the process fab the turbo setup shown here in this thread. The original poster doesn't come in here anymore and the only other person whose done this is turbo bricklayer and you never hear from him either. Remember that Ford didn't produce this setup (w/ turbo) so downtime will depend on your fab skills. You'd probably want to rebuild the 300-6 in the process to get some reliability.
I'm not sure the 300-6 is compatible with 100% E85 I could be wrong because Ford stopped making these in '95~'96. (kind of forget when exactly)

I know he doesnt have a cummins. I was saying I was weighing the options of 6bt vs 4bt vs Turbo the 300-6 thats allreayd there. I was asking what kind of milage he is getting now with his setup. I read a few pages back he was get 9-10 and I was wondering if it had imporved. Thanks though.

I could have been more clear. After I went back and read it I can see how I confused you.

(had to get it running in 4 days) I've got the boost sitting at a nice 8lbs. and getting about 15 mpg on the highway. So the next plan when I get more time and money will be to throw the cam at it and see how it responds, but for now I will enjoy my reliable 8lbs. and good mileage. here are some pics before the head went on.https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...id=149357&.jpg

Now remember his truck has a 4-speed manual w/ the granny low (no OD). That's not bad considering my '92 w/ the E4OD gets 16~17 mpg highway. I'd give up 1~2 mpg to do this but I've got to finish a few things first, always the way it seems.
