How many of you have done the T5 adapter route? Can any of you give some details? Ed

Shifter came out right between the tranny cover pan and the hump in the foorboard for the seat supports.

Here's a pic, it actually sits a bit further back now.

Damn that means you have to lose the stock seat. I do not want to have to go to a bucket. Is there any other T5 that does not have the stick that far back. I heard somthing about an S-10 but I am not sure i heard right. Ed

I'm using buckets.

You might be able to cut off part of the shifter and weld a piece so it extends out a bit?

One from an S-10 won't be able to take the abuse of one from a Mustang. What motor do you want to put this on? If your putting it on a Flathead or any other type of older motor with a custom bellhousing I have no idea where the shifter will end up, if your using 302/351W then it'll be roughtly the same. If you are using a 302 or 351W, you can also try the newer Tremec tranny's, there is one where you can have 3 different mounting points on the tranny, front, mid or rear.

Sorry I did not specify. I am wanting to use it on a 292 y-block. If I was going to the 351/302 then I would be using an AOD and going automatic. Ed

I'd start off by finding a bellhousing that will fit that, measure that, then measure how long the transmission is, then you'll get a ballpark idea of where the shifter will come out. I never saw a bellhousing for that tranny to those motors, only for Flatheads.

Friends of mine have adapted the stock bellhousing to fit a T-5. Look at www.badgerlandf100s.com for a tech article on how they did it.
Their first one was behind a 223 6Cylinder in a 56. He used a Mustang T-5 but used the tailshaft from a S-10 so he could still use his stock seat. They are made by Borg-warner so they will interchange. Granted, now you will have to buy 2 transmissions or know someone that has access to cores. Hope this helps.

What is the final drive ratio of those transmissions? Is fifth around .75? The reason I ask is I have a 1950 F3 and would like to unwind her a bit down the highway.

BTW I do not think that he installed a Mustang T5 with an S10 tail section. I think he used an S10 T5. His does not look at all like a Mustang T5. Is that correct? Ed

I'm sorry for the confusion. The Mustang T-5 with the S-10 tailshaft was behind a 223 in his 56.
The tech article illustrates the procedure on a 292 y_block in a 61 F100 Unibody.
