No oil Pressure

I own a '97 f-150 two wheel drive
120,000 miles---automatic---thier are times when oil pressure guage bottoms out at stop lights after driving a bit. Engine lifters tap a little louder, i put the vehicle in nuetral and the the pressure picks up. I have been using more coolant lately and about a quart or so a oil changes. No oil contamination or on the floor of the garage.

I have my own hunches but would like some input

Thanks

weak oil pump is my 1st guess. that or you need to seriously change the oil. Try running a thicker viscosity oil like 20w50 or some lucas oil stabilizer. I would seriously look into that oil pump though, it may be getting weak with age.

I had the same problem at 98,000 miles. Oil press drop to zero at the stop signs and coolant usage with no visible leaks.
Bad news. Check out http://www.leakingfords.com . You will get a ton of info I wish I had before I bought the truck last July.
My fix was a rebuilt engine.

homer, being the noobie around here you wouldn't know that this thread is waaaay more open with goofy posts than any other. This is probably one of the most close-nit posting forums on the FTE site. With that said, yes, I'll post what I like whether you think it's funny or not.

And no, the majority of my posts are helpful posts, not meaningless gab. Go into my name and look up all my posts for yourself if you don't believe me.

Besides, it looks like this questions has been *kind of* answered, and trust me...I give as much as I get when it comes down to having meaningless posts. You'll learn this I promise...wish Tom were here to help me out on this one.

Funny thing is Joe...I made this comment about a month and a half ago and I got flamed.... I rest my case. Have a good one buddy, email me sometime, or hit me up on T's site.
