Question Muffler For a 96 Bronco

I want to change the rusty stock muffler on my 96 Bronco. I want a muffler that will make some noise when I lay into the gas pedal.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for the input.....

Oh man, expect 4,534^2 opinions on what you should get. Exactly what kind of sound are you looking for? Is interior resonance an issue? If you check out the link in my signature, you can hear a few samples of past and current exhaust systems on my 96. I do have headers, and a high flow Y pipe, so my clips will be louder than yours, but it should give you a good idea.

Ditto what Wheel says...depends on how loud loud is to you. I have single 3" in dual 2.5" out Flowmaster 40 series on my '96. Nice rumble around town, not too loud but lets you know it is there. When I put my foot in it, long dead Bronco lovers smile in their graves. Of course the factory cats act like mufflers partially due to their massive size. I had my second cat replaced with a 3" in 3" out racing cat.
Pics of my custom system in my gallery, more/better pics on my website.

Flowmaster 40 on mine, love the sound. I also changed the cam to a ford e303 so not only does it sound great, it works great. Think I sould do the cat, like Big Red as well.

Not to get offtrack too bad, but bossind, how do you like the e303? I had heard it was more suited to car applications, and not necessarily trucks and suvs.

I love it. Pulls a lot better, I have 33s and stock 3.55s and it pulls better than my good friends stock bronco. I still need or is that want more power but it sure is a good place to start. We also have one in a 65 ford cobra and its not enough cam for that thing so we picked up the x303 for the cobra, hope to get around to doing that install this summer.

OH by the way my bronco is a 96 with mass air so doing these cam changes is a bit easer cause of that.

I had 2.5" exhaust put in and a Flowtech Afterburner muffler installed and I love the sound. Sounds like a truck should but not just like everybody elses flowmaster. You can go to the following link to hear an audio clip of this one and go to the menu and hear some of the others as well. Honestly though, you'll probably be happy with whatever you get, flowmasters, flowtech, dynomax....they all sound alot better than stock.

the link doesn't seem to be working right, but you can find it through holley's website.

Whoa baby!

I listened to the sound samples at Holleys site. Can I really get that kind of sound just by putting in a new muffler?

More or less, yeah! Remeber though, that your catalytic converter(s) will dampen the sound some, but overall the sound should be pretty close. I'm extremely happy with mine. Going with a larger diameter exhaust will make it sound a bit better also, along with giving you a bit of a performance gain. A local shop should be ablet to replace everything from the headers or exhaust manifold back pretty reasonably. I think mine was around a $100 or so for 2.5" exhaust. 3" might be a tad bit higher but not too much. Even without that though, just replacing the muffler will definitely make it sound MUCH better. Good luck!
