Lightbulb in-line 6 rebuild

Hi all i'd like your input on this. I have a 83 300cid and i'm thinking about rebuilding it i've had the block checked and have to bore it to 30 over, i'm planning to put a cran cam, header, 4 barrel in-take with a 2 barrel carb. my truck is a 83 f-150 with AOD trans. does this sound like a good idea or does someone have a better idea? I'd love to hear them. My fuel mileage is only about 9-11 MPG now whill this help? thank you Scott

It sounds like a pretty common build, one you'll see a lot of reference to on this site. If you haven't tried a search do that, rebuild should be a good key word. There was a thread here not too long ago very simmilar. I'm doing about the same thing with my Bronco. From what I've read it should pep up the motor quite a bit. You might consider doing some port work on the head while you're at it. Keep posting and searching, there is more info here than you'll know what to do with. Btw which carb were you thinking of?
