Rear differential: change?

My 95 Explorer XLT has 119K in mileage. Someone told me that once you hit high mileage, it would be prudent to get the rear differential checked out and possibly changed. It has been checked at various times (with a fair diagnosis) but never changed. Is this something that should be done at this point in order to avoid any impending problems?

It would probably be a good idea. Ford says they are lubed for life, but I don't trust that.

P.S. this is a good time to switch over to a synthetic lube to.
