Extend the Warranty or Not?

I just went to the Ford ESP page and with a $100 deductible, the 7 yr/100k for my FX4 (premium) was approx 2K and for the 1 step lower program it was approx 1400.
Like said earlier, I would stay away from 3rd party warranties. Before I came into the military I purchased a 96 WS6 Trans Am with 22k miles from Lee Pontiac in San Antonio with a 72k extended warranty from I believe Trans America. I had no deductible and everything was fine when I took it to the dealerships in SA. But after I got to Florida at 38k my electrical system went to ****, power headlight motor, driver side window motor, and power antennae all went out. The local pontiac dealership totaled the work to $800.00 and wanted me to pay the bill and file for reimbursement on my own. I went to all the local GM dealerships in this area and got the same reply. Needless to say, I went to the local Jeep dealership and traded it in on a Cherokee, which was later lemon-lawed but that's another story.

Why buy and extended warranty while your vehicle is still under it's own warrranty?
Maybe you'll wreck it, sell it, etc. before the warranty is up. Keep your money in your pocket and collect some interest. You can purchase the ESP when warranty runs out. In the mean time do some homework. There are many non-Ford extended warranties that are legitimate and reputable. Many have better coverage for less cost.

Question
I will pick up my Lariat 4by4 in July, and haven't decided to get the ESP yet. Realize that this is extra insurance for the "just in case", but have never purchased and ESP before.
Is there a different price if you don't get the ESP before you leave the dealer? Do you have up to 12,000 miles to decide?
I went to the link provided for the ESP:
http://www.fordserviceplan.com/model.asp?id=18<!-- / message -->
and couldn't get the same price as others quoted in this thread.
Please provide recommendations from the life-long Ford owners out there. What is the probability if there is a problem, it will show up in 36 months, 36,000 miles?
Thanks
