Source for Crinkle finish paint on valve covers?

Is there any you don't have to stick in the oven? I can't find any online and my local stores don't have it except for one carrying the bake type kind.

Also anyone know the best trick to keep the polished letters polished? Many sites say to tape the lettering off, but how would paint get between them?

I don't want to mess up my oven, I don't think I'd live through the night

Thanks

Chris

Our local auto supply has crinkle finish in a spray can. I used it for the heater in my '60 F-100 ... I assume the finish you're looking for on your valve covers would be similar? The paint was black and the crinkles were on roughly about 1.5 times the scale of a fingerprint. The paint dried slowly and smelled a little odd for a while, but the crinkle finish is pretty good. Maybe your local auto supply has something like it.

I will go hunt it down again, maybe I will try some of the smaller independant companies.

The stuff on your heater box, did it have to be baked?

Thanks

No. Sorry, I didn't mention that. It needed no baking.

Krylon is one brand. The ones I've used didn't have to be baked but it helped. You need to get three coats on very evenly and with the correct amount of time in between. Setting in the sun helps. Also a milk barn heater or heat lamp can be applied. It takes overnight to get comletely dry.

not that it should have made a difference, but I found 'wrinkle' paint easily now asking for that.

Thanks everyone
