97 F250 HD questions
I am looking at buying a 97 F250HD crew short box 4WD PSD w/ 57k miles. CA trk in great shape. Couple of things I wonder-
-I have the VIN. I would like to find out what this truck may have that I dont know about.
VIN #1FTHW26F1VEC18225
-What makes the difference between a reg F250 and a Heavy Duty? What components are HD?
-Any "seasoned veteran" words of wisdom???
Thanks for all input!!

97 F250 HD questions
The difference between my ex 87 F250 HD and a regular F250 as follows
F250 HD means it has a 8800 GVW
This means this is a full floating rear end with heavy duty suspension. Basically a lighter rated 1 ton truck.
Has all the same components as the 1 ton drivetrain.
The F250 is basically a beafed up 1/2 ton pick up.
97 F250 HD would be the equivalant of todays Super Duty trucks before the new body style.
Although the new Super Duty has upgraded parts such as 4 wheel disc brakes etc, that teh F250 HD does not have.

Welcome to FTE. Bookmark this site, it will save you time, money and frustration...
I purchased that same truck about 5 months ago. I absolutely dig it. It is the best F250 4X4 I have owned. You can pull a house with it.
I live in CA also and just to let you know, there are some slight differences between CA trucks vs trucks from other states (mostly emissions stuff from what I have gathered). I had a fuel leak which resulted from a bad "fuel pulse dampener." The only way I was able to identify the part was from input from members on this site (the dealer wasn't able to identify the part until I brought the part in). There is a wealth of knowledge on here. Basically, if there is something you are going to do to your truck; it has been done and someone has written about it on here.

I believe that is correct. The 97 f250 HD was the same as the 92-96 F250, except you could get a 97 F250hd in four doors. The standard 97 f250 looked exactly like the 97+ f150 that you see running around all over the place. I believe they only had the f250 Light duty for 97 and 98. In 98 you could not buy a actual 1998 f250HD or f350. You could have bought either 97s or the up and coming 99 super dutys.
To be honest. I hate the term super duty now. What the point of using the term Super Duty if there is no other duty? There is no F250 light duty, or normal duty, or no f350 light or normal duty. Whats wrong with just calling them f250 or an f350. That term originated just because of the normal and HD back in 97. I guess people got sucked in and now its just a marketing thing. Yet, now all three manufactureers have their "super or heavy duty" Even thought they are still just considered 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. Strange to me.

just so you know at this altitude i can make 26 pounds of boost with my truck with just an intake and exhaust and an ICP mod. where trucks without AB code injectors and chips can bearly make 21 pounds around here AA and AO code injectors.

OOO I like that, will AC injectors work with our Ford drivers? Now that I think about it, that is were I heard about AC injectors I was reading some stuff on the t444e somewhere. I think I was trying to figure out how they could get 600+ lbs of tq and still only produce 200 HP. Which I would love to have! I would rather give HP and gain TQ.
