Is special paint needed for painting coil springs?

Is special paint needed for painting coil springs? Or can I use regular enamel? Im concerned about the flexing causing the paint to crack and chip off.

Thanks

they do ahve additives and primers that help with that. you also might want to consider powder coating them.

I was hoping to find something in a spray can, I saw some rustoleum heavy equipment paint that looks like it would hold up pretty good, wierd colors though. I think powdercoating would be cool depending on how much it cost.

Have you considered ZeroRust in the spray cans? I think it might work on the springs and it doesn't seem to be as hard as most topcoats.

Wow, I was going to have some old steel 15 inch wagon wheels powdercoated, But at 100 I could buy new wheels. There is a place we use here at work from time to time I'll have to see what the charge.

but you also got to remember that that price was for 22 inch wheels. 15's would be alot cheeper.

I just painted my coils with black rust paint. I just made sure the springs were cleaned up with emery cloth and brake cleaner then i did 4 light coats letting each one dry for and hour or so in between, looks fine and i had them flexing some good. My springs were off my truck though.

Just painted 2 weeks ago new TRW coil springs, radius arms, axles, spindles, and steering linkage with Rustoleum Farm Machinery Paint: Intl Harv Red. It was cleaned to bare metal, primed, then painted according to instructions. It looks vibrantly hot under the painted black frame. Let you know how in lasts; but I suspect you will get more problems from nicks and abrasions from road stones and debris.

Paint coil springs

Check out POR-15 website! I have used this for rusty parts! And it works awesome! Rock hard! Although I have not used it on flexible parts, the latest info I have received shows them flexing parts with no chips or cracks! A little go's a long ways! I painted some inner fender liners, and within a couple of days, it was so hard that I could not even scratch it with my fingernail !
