after market cd changer

I have a 97 expy that has no cd player, but the radio/cassette player has the buttons that say cd, and cd shuffle. does this mean that this unit is wired for a cd player, if so does it have to be a ford unit or will a aftermarket unit plug in? any help would be great.

A while back I wanted to upgrade my stereo. I have the indash casette with 6 disc changer in the console. What I wanted was more power so my plan was to ditch the indash unit while retaining the changer. I went to a couple shops and both told me I couldn't do this, so rather than replacing everything I added an amp to the existing set-up.

So to answer your question, I'd certainly ask around at a couple reputable shops. At the very least, you should be able to add a changer with the rf type connection.

Good Luck.

You either need a Ford changer or an aftermarket one with it's own controler that uses a line-in adapter, or a FM Modulator.

Do a search on ebay. I picked up a 10 disc changer with adapter that plugged directly into the amp of the OEM head unit of my Taurus. Cost $200.00.

I have a 2001 Ford Expedition. I would want to install a Sony CD Charger with RF Modulator. I am not sure what antenna connector the Factory Stereo has. Do I need to buy an Antenna Adaptor as I dont want to splice the antenna cable?

cserapio: The antenna adapter on my '97 Expedition was the "standard plug" that I have seen on every vehicle I have owned, so you should be okay. And it is actually very easy to pull the unit the check this out before purchasing anything.
