Thanks, great schematic, I was going to go the less invasive way but I like what you did so I will probably go that way. I did a web search and one site shows that the wood colored cover just snaps off then just remove the screws.

Actually, there is a compnay that make a wire harness that will conect your Ipod directly to your Stock Headunit. It also will charge your Ipod while in use, and to top it off you can use your head unit to scroll thru music on your Ipod. I haven't gotten it yet, but have done some checking on it the past few days, and it looks legit. It's made by a company called Periphery or soemthing like that, just google part number PDXP2, and it'll pop up. It's 150+ bucks, but probably worth it. It'll do everything you want without having to fumble with the Ipod's clickwheel while you're driving.

I saw several of this type at the radio something store dot somthing but I was unable to determine if it fits f-150 2004 audiophile. I will try your part number. I don't like too many choices so I just let the thing play random. It is like having my own radio station without comericial and that only plays, so far, my 5000+ favorite songs. So I won't be too upset if I can't control the ipod from the headunit. It would be nice to show off, though.

Actually, now that you mention that you've got an 04 Audiophile, I'm not sure it will work. Make sure you look, but I seem to remember it saying 05-06 F-150's. However, I don't think there was really any change at all in those head units from 04-06, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. As long as it has the correct connections on the back of the HU, then it should be good to go. Anyway, good luck, and if you do go that route, let me know how it works. I'm looking at getting one myself.

My confidence is low that 05-06 units will work because I sent an email to Logjam Electronics Technical Support asking them if they have a unit that can control the ipod from the F-150 2004 radio headunit because they show other years on their web site that do control the ipod and I got this response:

Hi chanceygardener:
We sorry but there is no iPOD interface that we know of that will allow
the factory radio in the '04 F150 to control the iPOD.

Thank you,

Technical Support

Yep, you're right. Just checked the website where I've been checking out this adapter, and it's only for 05-07 F-150's. Sorry about that. Sounds like you've got a fix right now that works just fine. Sorry about getting your hopes up.

I did get this info from the Pioneer site though.

Play and Control iPod® via Your Headunit
“iPod” is a lineup of digital audio players from Apple Computer, Inc. Despite the light weight and compact size — most iPods are pocket size — the Hard Disk Drive can hold up to 10,000 songs* downloaded from a computer. Pioneer's CD-IB100II iPod adapter permits direct control and playback of iPod through our “iPod® Adapter Ready” headunits. Compatible Pioneer headunits can be connected with an iPod via this dedicated adapter, and using the touch panel or soft keys, listeners can play iPod-recorded songs with the following convenient functions:

Text Information Display
Song/album titles, artist names, and track length — memorized by connected iPod — are conveniently displayed on the monitor or headunit display. This capability also permits multiple “search” functions, making it a snap to find a song to play back.

Multiple “Search” Functions
Just like looking for files stored on a PC, iPod-recorded songs may be sorted according to registered playlists, genres, artists, or albums to ensure easy access to each music file.

Repeat Playback
The Repeat Playback function offers two options — repeat playing of a particular song or playback of all tunes from a specified playlist.

“Shuffle Songs” Function for Random Playback
Everybody's favorite option for mixing things up, Shuffle Songs randomly plays the songs in the iPod music library. Every song is a pleasant surprise, and the more files that are stored in the iPod, the greater the surprise.
*When files in 128kbps AAC format are recorded in a 40GB Hard Disk.

Compatibility
For use with Pioneer “iPod® Adapter Ready” Headunits and AV Receivers. Compatible models include:

Full Touch-Panel Control models: AVIC-Z1, AVIC-N3, AVH-P7800DVD, AVH-P6800DVD, AVH-P5700DVD
Full Rotary Commander Control models: DEH-P9800BT, DEH-P980BT, DEH-P880PRS, DEH-P7800MP, DEH-P780MP, DEH-P6800MP, DEH-P680MP
The following models can control the CD-IB100II through "External Unit Control", with some limitations in operation and display. Please consult the owners manual for more details.

AVIC-D2, AVIC-N2, AVIC-D1, AVH-P7600DVD, AVH-P7500DVD, AVH-P6600DVD, DVH-P5000MP
DEH-P5800MP, DEH-P580MP, DEH-P4800MP, DEH-P480MP, DEH-P3800MP

About 5 post ago we saw a picture and a schematic of one of these installed so we know it works to play through the system but I don't think that model controls the ipod from the radio controls for things like FF, suffle etc. I am looking for one that adds this feature. for other year fords at the same the same web site or at PIE web site or pioneer web site offer these features, why not 2004. this email from the site you referenced tech support says:

Hi chanceygardener:

the factory radio in the '04 F150 to control the iPOD.

PS. FYI, I was trying to find the units model number and I call the dealer and the dealer suggested triptunes, installed for 160.00. and about haft that just for the unit. the dealer said it would give me control of the ipod through the radio but other site i have looked at say it is just an FM modulator does anyone know for sure. and FYI he said I can get the model number by holding the 3 and 6 button down simultaniously.

PSS I guess it was more like 10 post ago.

Here's what I found:
With TripTunes, an iPod runs through a special connection in the glove box and automatically charges while the car is on. Songs playing on an iPod are displayed on the car radio screen.

All iPod functions, including volume and track selection, can be controlled by steering wheel settings.

just make sure what you buy is compatible with the new ford CANBUSS radios. a special communication protocol.

Brand Motion will soon have an IPod interface for the factory CANBuss radios ( target March deliveries) the radio does control the IPod and display text.
PIE, and peripheral will also have a similar products soon.

I used the Brandmotion product this past week. works good. Sorts by playlist, artist, etc. and can skip forward in songs, not sure if it has shuffle, but I can find out.

if you don't want to wait for the devicesw that control the IPod from teh radio, then PIE does currently have an AUX input device for these radios (as mentioned above) . Line level input but no control of the IPod from the radio -
