SCrew Headliner removal and Q for Toreador

Toreador: Any update on your noise reduction project?

All: I still do not know how to remove the headliner. The coat hooks look like the need a special tool to be removed. Any advice on how to get the little buggers out would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I am looking to do the rear seat floorboards, directly under the sub, behind the rearseat and the roof. Son-in-law say that the most effective piece will be the one directly under the sub. It has something to do with dampening any vibration loss - I dunno - it is beyond my knowledge but the stuff works. ;-)

I do not know anything about the soundproof mat under the hood. Would that help quiet the inside???

I am still looking for someone who can advise how to remove thos little coat hooks so I can get the headliner down.

Thanks all,

-Lane
Lane if you look close at the center of the coat hook, you will see a oblong piece of plastic that covers the screw holding the coat hook to the roof. With a dental pick or jewlers screwdriver you should be able to pop off that cover and expose the screw.

Well, turns out I got lazy, Lane. I took it in and had an audio shop do it (I posted an update on this forum). I love it. The truck was quiet to begin with and now it's even more luxury riding. Those who have the skill to do so, I'd recommend it. If you do it yourself you can save a lot of money. As for the headliner, read what fomocojoe says here. It sounds logical to me.

Fomocojoe: I have the oblong piece of plastic and it is easy enough to open however there is no screw behind it. In looking very closely, there is a hole within which there appears to be a couple of metal wings or spring clips that have the coat hook locked in place. I cannot pull them together as the space is to narrow and pushing on the does not seem to work.

Any one have an idea. I am not opposed to destrying them and replacing them if needs be but it looks like there should be a tool to remove them.

Thanks!
