vapor can to air intake hose replacement
1971 f100 302
A line runs from the top of the in-cab fuel tank to a canister with three ports. This vapor can is strapped in under the battery at about bumber level. One port recieves gas fumes from the tank, the middle is open and the last port has a 1 inch diameter hose running to the air intake filter housing. That last hose has a brown paper core and what looks like a layer of aluminium, then black paper on the ouside.
I'd like to replace the vapor can but haven't found one and wonder if it won't just be ok. It is just filled with charcoal and undamaged.
That hose is toast. I wonder replacing with rubber tubing could cause any problems. Does that hose need to be paper and aluminium?
Just to be clear, I'm not talking about a heater hose. I haven't found any refernce to this hose and am not sure exactly what it is called. Maybe it could be called the gas vapor return line.
I have a picture, but am new to this forum posting and haven't quite got that figured out yet either.

Use any type of emissions rated rubber hose. Heater hose may work but it may be destroyed by the gas fumes. Try it and let us know back in a year or so -hehe
In later vehicles the vapors were metered thru a valve or orifice and drawn into the PCV system. I have used a 1/16" metering orifice in the line with good results. A very small carb adjustment may be required tho.
