"Oil Filters" 6.9-7.3 IDI vs. 7.3 Powerstroke

Today when I was at Wal-Mart I saw a large filter that was for the powerstrokes. I took it out of the box and compared it to the one that the old 6.9's and 7.3's used. The threads, and the diameter of the filter are the same. The 6.9 filter holds one quart and the powerstroke filter holds 2 quarts. Right? Is it safe the put the large 2qt filter on the old 6.9's? Will it get the right oil pressure? The right oil flow? etc....

I don't see why it wouldn't work as long as everything is the same on top, and you said it was. I would think you would just have an extra qt of oil in the system. Hook up a real pressure gauge and try them both out...Les

That's a good question. I'll be at a International dealer on thursday and I'll ask them what they think about it and let you know.

You can use the powerstroke oil filter with no problem, it has a larger capacity and a smaller micron rating. This means that it will clean oil better than the original filter.

It will work fine , just add a extra quart of oil. We use them all the time at the shop no problems .
