Worth of a '77 302?
I'm pulling the stock 302 out of my '77 F100 and swapping in a 460. Is there any value in an older non-roller 302 block these days other than taking it in for scrap? I had it in mind to find a buyer for my 302/C4 just before swapping in the 460/C6 so they could see/hear it run and drive. If there isn't much value in it I'm considering saving it for a rebuild simply for the experience alone, since I have little, and then finding some use for it later. Maybe someone will want it for a V8 motorcycle build or something, who knows!

The older blocks are heavier than the newer ones, so they're more desireable for stroker builds. Check the casting numbers near the starter. If it's a late 77 it could have the D8VE block. The one to look for has the A3A suffix. These have the thicker main caps that the Mex blocks and the 289 Hi-po's had. Otherwise it's the same block, same iron content (136 lbs bare) as those two castings. The heads are junk as is the intake, The rotating assembly is fine, the rods are good to 7 grand with ARP bolts. The C4 will be a large bell unit (164 tooth bell ) if not an FMX transmission.

Thanks for the info. I never even thought of a stroker. That'd be the 347's I see talked about from time to time. Now that it's warming up here I'll have to crawl under the truck and see if I can find some casting numbers. I guess I could use that info to lure a potential buyer when that time comes.
