My 1995 PowerStroke has been cutting out,sputtering when driving down the road. The check engine light comes on and it clears up for a few minutes then cuts out again. Someone told me that it could be the EGR valve. First of all, does the 95 pwerstroke have an EGR valve and if so does anyone know where to locate it at? Also, what are the symptoms of an EGR valve not functioning properly?

The Power Stroke DOES NOT have an EGR valve. If you are getting a check engine light, you must have something setting a code (otherwise the check engine light wouldn't be comming on). That code will be stored in the computer even if the check engine light is off. You need to have somebody hook up a scan tool to the system and find out what codes are stored in the computer. Unless you've got the equipment and a Ford Engine Emissions manual, you'll probably have to take it to a Ford dealer.

 

This is typical problem when the cam position sensor is failing. Try replacing that first.
