I owe it to ARCTIC DIESEL for allowing me to start at 50 deg. below zero!!! The stuff was still fluid enough to fire the block heater AND not plug the fuel filter.

Cameltoe, I've read a lot of your posts and tried to keep up on your progress, and you're going about it the right way, no doubt. I agree that we need to look at modifying the engines to be able to run on alternative fuels as well.
I think there are some folks out there that think they can run to McDonald's get a few gallons of fryer oil and dump it in the tank and expect it to run, that's what concerns me.

You are so correct. However, the basic compression ignition design still allows for the use of fuels besides petro diesel. Gasoline engines are far less forgiving about fuels.

Because diesels have evolved so far, we can't just take vegetable oil and pour it into the fuel tank. That is why I have been researching literature and asking questions of people that have made the conversion to veggie oil.

I'm also very interested in converting waste oil to biodiesel. These are much better alternatives than anything available to gassers.

Kens-

I would be highly concerned about running pure vegoil without heating it prior to injection, simply because it is much more viscous the diesel and likely will not mist property. What engine do you have? Please let us know how vegoil works out for you long term.

runs good in warm weather sluggish when it gets cold, i have thought about putting heaters in the tanks, its a 1996 7.3 crewcab with 326,789 miles runs great with 10k mod, green air filter , 3jn down pipe with 4in straight pipe out the side, timing mod with the oil temp

Ken,
I have the same truck as you and am looking to run WVO. I plan to get a larger front tank (40gl).

It sounds like you did very little to convert to running VO. What did you change and how do you prepare your VO?

Ken,

Did you mean 2,000 or 20,000 miles on straight VO?

Do you keep one tank of straight diesel fuel to start on in the morning and shut down on?

There is a lot of discussion abotu residue in the injectors and cylinders if you shut down on VO. Have you noticed anything or taken steps to clean the system occaisionaly?

OK, I'm very interested also but I've been asking around and most fast food places sell their WVO to people who pick it up. Where do you guys get your WVO?

Do you have a problem with water at all, do you let the oil settle a little and then strain of the top, or just throught the filter and right into the tank???

I am just worried about an excessive amount of water in the oil.

i leave the oil settle for about a week , the water and fat turns white in the bottom of the drum, then i skoop it out with a clean cup [peanutbutter jar] to see how clear it looks as i dump it into the filter, if the oil in the cup starts to become cloudy then leave it settle a day orso,. looking to get a canster filter for the frame one that comes apart so it can be cleaned just haven't found one yeat

Very interesting. I have prolly 50 gallons of oil sitting here that I got from my friend, dont have all the parts done for the '96 to do a full convertion, but from your experiences I might just start running it 50/50 for now, prolly 25/75 diesel/oil this summer. hopefully have a heated tank and shell and tube heater by winter for year round running of WVO.

Thanks Ken.
