460 Motorhome fuel pump
I am new to this Forum. I got here from the RV Forum. MY problem is that I have a 1996 Dutch Star with the F-53 Ford chassis and a Fuel injected 460. I am having the classic fuel problems on some hot days or with less than 1/2 tank of fuel. I have purchased a Holley HLY-12-920 inline fuel pump and plan on installing it as an auxillary to the in-tank pump. I am going to install an additional in-line filter on the input side of the new Holley pump. I also bought a safety switch to insure that it shuts off if I the engine stops (low oil pressure). I have a few questions. First, instead of wiring it separately, should I just find the wire that goes to the in-tank fuel pump and tap into it (or would that be too much amperage for the wire)? Anyone know what color that line might be in a 96 f-53 motorhome chassis? Next, I have been weighing the idea of installing the pump in parallel with the fuel line as a bypass, wiring it separetly to a switch and only using it if I have low pressure symptoms. If I do this I will need to put a one way valve in the part of the line that is bypassed or install a selector valve just prior to the in-line pump. Maybe the easiest solution is to let the in-line pump run all the time anyway. Any thoughts of comments are welcome. Incidently, I DO NOT want to drop the tank, done that before, no fun, and this one is a 75 gallon one. Thanks in advance for any help.
