Posted this on the exhaust forum, not to many 79 owners over there I dont think. Does the 79 351m in f150 4x4 (cal emissions) p/u's have any type of gasket for the exhaust manifold/header pipe connections ?? The y-ed header pipes are flared at the tips , the ex. manifolds are cone shaped and they fit well without one. I stopped at my local Ford dealer yesterday, the parts guy said it does not use one. My experience in mechanic work has been its best to get second opinions. I went to 2 auto store parts places, and they said it listed gaskets. I dont want to ruin my original parts by not using a gasket if am supposed to . help !! thanks

 

your talking about where the manifold meets the Y pipe? No, their is no gasket. The cone on the manifold fits the flare on the Y pipe to make the seal.
