newbie q- 99 ranger 4x4 max tire size?

Hello- i couldn't locate this today on any threads, so hopefully someone can help. I have a 99 ranger 4x4 supercab, stock, 100k, everyday use, hwy, city, occasional light off-road in fields, hunting, etc. I have stock p245/75/16 goodyear wranglers which are worn out. I have wanted to increase size mainly for appearance as this is the only thing that i haven't liked about truck. I now live in Washington DC area and have run into the apparently common problem of chain stores saying that their guidebook says i cannot change size. I am sure i have seen or read about being able to put at least a Lt265/75/16, which would be ok- but the last dealer said something about the LT needing more air pressure and damaging the rims. Anyway, I am completely frustrated because all I want to know is how large size i can go without needing any changes. Also, I would ideally like BFG AT-KO, but due to my recent financial considerations, I am leaning toward an off-brand called Apache that was only about $95 each (but i've only been able to locate that brand in western pa.
Thanks- for any help. By the way, my truck has been great and it is fun to drive a real truck in DC. I am probably not the best owner as in 100k, I have really only changed the oil and had brake pads twice, and Ford had replaced the original tires in the recall, but "New Blue" has been great and a fine replacement for "Old Blue", my 1990 F150 work truck who moved along to a new home with 177k!

I see many 98 and newer ranger 4x4's with 265/75/16's on them, and they don't seem to have any problems fitting. My truck came with 265/75/15's from the factory, so the width is the same, you're only adding an inch in height. Good luck

I replaced my Wranglers with some BFG All Terrain 265/70-16's. Same height as your Wranglers, so the speedo will be the same.

A world of difference. The wider track and the more aggressive tread looks great. Plus they out perform the junk Wranglers on dry, wet and mudd.

I have the bfg-a/t KO on my ranger they look great . No rubbing at all. The size is 31 10.50 r15. Thats on a 15 inch rim .The tires ran 105.00 a piece. My ranger came with 16inch rims but the previous owner switched to these. Its a good thing he did cause the tires are about 50 to 80 bucks less.

Yeah. The 16's were $157 mounted, balanced, disposed... Out the door.

The only difference is that the 16's are classified as "Load D", not C

I don't think that'll ever help me.

The 16" rim will get you less sidewall slop.
