Truck just quits

Riding down the road Saturday night towing my boat home. Truck just shuts down going 50 mph. I'm not sure if it shuts down completely or just a temporary loss of power. When it shuts down the glow plug light comes on and the tow haul mode shuts off. The truck starts going again on its own. It happend 8-10 times in a 5 mile stretch. I made it home and Sunday morning I disconnected the batteries hoping to reset something so I could use my boat. It has only happened once since then. I should note it happened Saturday morning without towing the boat but at that time I wasn't sure what had happened. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas?

NEVER had a problem like this....
if I did I would RUN to the dealer to get it fixed....
sounds like you have an electrical short in a sensor or wiring harness...

What's the engine build date? In any event, I would have it back in the shop. Wire chafing maybe?

I have contacted the service manager at my dealership. We are on a first name basis at this point. He said if the check engine light was not coming on it was probably not sending a code. The only thing he could do is take it for a test ride to see if he could duplicate problem. Since it is a random event that would be like playing the lottery. I am going to drive it for the rest of the week then let him hook it up to check for codes. Will see what happens.

go to the dealer and have him hook up the little red box that records data for the WDS to read when u come back. just drive it till it does it and go to the dealer.

it sure sounds like a ign switch problem. i suggest u take the under-dash fuse box cover off(the big panel w/ 4 plastic "screws") and w/ a 10mm socket, make sure the bolt in the middle of the ign connector is tight. the connector is white and up on the steerin column under the dash, and about 1.5"x3" w/ heavy guage wires comin out.

superduties have had a few problems w/ this connector

Sounds possibly like the dreaded wiring harness chaeffing. I had it happen to me and my truck would just die for no apparent reason.

It sure sounds like the wire chaffing. Tell your Service Manager to do his job and research wire chaffing. There are a few places this could occur. Dang Service Writers should get on this website and they could better serve you by looking into this.

I heard about the wiring harness problem some months back and took some extra wire loom and put them in some strategic spots and some tape. There are pics available that were on the Ford website where chafing occurs.

Could you post those, Tim?
